I believe that the ePortfolio section of this class has made a huge impact on my academic career. Not only have I begun to understand the importance of having an online presence that shows my academic achievements as well as my career skills, but this has also helped me with organizing my work. I am appreciative of the experience and I believe that reflecting on the work we do in each module has even further solidified what I learned this semester and it has been helpful to my education over all.
I believe that the ePortfolio that I have created so far could still use some work. I believe that I should take a more professional looking photo for my site, that only has my face in it and is of higher quality. A good headshot would improve my home page greatly and give a better representation of who I am. I believe that a head shot is the first introduction an employer has when researching a potential employee. Having a good first impression on someone is important to your career. I also think that I could build out my resume a bit more in my ePortfolio as well. I think that it is important to go back and include my current internship in my ePortfolio. I believe that it is important to show what I have not only gained academically from Old Dominion University, but also show what I have gained while working at my internship with Anthem. I believe that showing what tools and skills my internship has provided me with would be vital to my resume. I believe that I also gained a lot from the research project we completed this semester. I really enjoyed learning how to build a study and how to carry out surveys and experiments. This class has made me excited to think about the possibility of furthering my education and going on to get a master’s degree where I would have the chance to use the research skills that I acquired from this class. The research project was challenging at first, but I grew to really enjoy the literature review as well as the building of my own survey. I enjoyed getting creative and determining what design would best fit my research material and purpose.
I think the most valuable part of this class was the building of a research project from start to finish. This class called for a lot of dedication, in sticking with your research and furthering your knowledge on the subject whilst also coming up with a plan on how to carry out the experiment and go on to present the information you gained. I would recommend this class to any communications major, and I am glad I got to take it before graduating.
